Gunnel Sahlin

Gunnel Sahlin. Born 1954. Retained by Kosta Boda since 1986, she has a studio at Åfors glassworks. A generous and forceful modernist whose designs are elegant yet at the same time gentle and fluid. She now works mostly in clear glass, with restrained but effective dashes of color, but has also achieved recognition for glass creations with areas of opacity made up of matte, non-transparent or semi-transparent surfaces. She is very confident in her manipulation of color, shape and volume of glass. She has a background as a textile designer, hints of which can be seen in her elegant designs, which are often inspired by nature. Circles, dots and stripes are among Gunnel Sahlin’s signature patterns. She has been Professor of Ceramics at Stockholm University College of Arts, Crafts and Design since 1999.
